about
“Holding it down” is the first single released off of Two Truths’ second EP “The Long Goodbye.” Written by Jonathan Blake, it is a stoic anthem for anyone who feels lost or hopeless but chooses to strive forward towards the light. It is a song about finding yourself while also finding that balance in a partner between loving them and having them drive you crazy.
Musically, it is all-American guitar-driven rock, featuring small guitar interludes and an epic harmonized guitar solo reminiscent of the Allman Brothers. It feels like Tom Petty and Lynyrd Skynyrd coupled with U2 and Ray LaMontagne. “Holding it down” is real, raw, and invigorating with its uplifting message.
lyrics
Things are never gonna go my way
my childhood dreams are just that, fairy dust thrown against the wind
Things are never gonna be the same You found me all broken up in pieces and you put me back together
but if you keep on pushing me I’m telling you somethings gonna give
you know I love you baby but at some point you gotta let me live
I keep on holding it down
I got this feeling like I can’t go wrong So quit holding me back
you might turn around and I’ll be gone
Ah, but somethings missing oh
it’s you I should be kissing on
I need you close to me every night
And ah, you bring out the best
so why you always testing me
can’t seem to get you outta my mind
I don’t need a reason to stray
my body's filled with the blood of the gypsy and I’ll ramble till the day I die
I don’t need a reason to stay
the stories there in my son’s eyes still growing and you and hims all I need
but if you keep on pushing me I’m telling you somethings gonna give
you know I love you baby but at some point you gotta let me live
I keep on holding it down
I got this feeling like I can’t go wrong So quit holding me back
you might turn around and I’ll be gone
Oh, but somethings missing oh
it’s you I should be kissing on
need you you close to me every night
And ah, you bring out the best
so why you always testing me
can’t seem to get you off my mind
Oh sometimes I get beat up
I get so let down
But then you shelter me
And you show me what it’s all about
I keep on holding it down
I got this feeling like I can’t go wrong So quit holding me back
you might turn around and I’ll be gone
but somethings missing oh
it’s you I should be kissing on need you you close to me every night
And ah, you bring out the best so why you always testing me can’t seem to get you off my mind
I keep on holding it down

TWO TRUTHS is an Art-Rock/Alt-Folk band in Los Angeles. Their music is elusive and enchanting. Each song is a vignette into a world all its own; some familiar and some far away; each one an escape.
